Sheetal Devi: The archer who inspires the world

 

Sheetal Devi is a 16 year's old para-archer from India who has inspired the world with her story of perseverance and determination. Born with phocomelia, a rare congenital disorder that results in underdeveloped limbs, Sheetal was told that she would never be able to play sports. However, she defied the odds and became one of the best archers in the world.

Sheetal's journey to archery began in 2019 when she attended a youth event in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir. There, she was noticed by the Indian Army's Rashtriya Rifles unit, who offered her support and encouragement.

In 2023, Sheetal made her international debut at the Asian Para Games. She won a silver medal in the women's compound bow competition, an incredible feat for a first-time competitor. But Sheetal wasn't satisfied with just one medal. She went on to win two gold medals in the mixed doubles and women's individual competitions, cementing her status as one of the best para-archers in the world. She is the first armless Archer in the world who wins gold Asian Para Games.
